Who is the Amberley District State School Indigenous Support Aide?

Mrs Vicki Nilsen has been the Indigenous Student Support Aide at the school since July 2012.  Vicki holds a Certificate III in Education Support and has completed Cultural Awareness training through the Education Department.

What does our Indigenous Student Support Aide do within the school?

Our First Nations Student Support Aide supports First Nations students to achieve a successful educational experience by encouraging attendance, building positive relationships and supporting social and emotional wellbeing.

Our First Nations Student Support Aide also runs our dance group, The Amberley Garringgam Dancers,  which is open to students from prep to year 6.  This as well as other excursions and events are to encourage students to take pride in and celebrate their culture.

The First Nations Student Support Aide is available for students to connect with at school if they are in need of any assistance in or out of the classroom.  This role also extends as an educational liaison for parents within the school providing assistance with information for families from local community groups.

How can I contact the Indigenous Student Support Aide?

Mrs Nilsen can be contacted at the school 3280 3111 or via email issa@amberleydistrictss.eq.edu.au
